The good, the bad, and the frizzy - Monster High Operetta.

Turns out my Monster High first wave Operetta doll did arrive in the post today - Que happy Jodie. However, I wasn't quite so excited when I unwrapped her...
Let me explain, for weeks now I've been staring at Monster High dolls online and in shops, playing with the boxes, looking at the shoes(!), before returning them, because I just don't know how much I want to spend on a playdoll. I've looked at amazing photo's on flickr and read awesome reviews. And I finally, finally managed to win Operetta on ebay (perhaps the coolest doll) for a cheap, nice price. From England too, which means quicker delivery, less waiting for me. I knew that his doll was used - I didn't realise she was quite so haggard though...

This is how she arrived:

That awful, awful hair
Everything was included, which is great, but she wasn't placed in any kind of box, just a padded envelope. Her jeans don't seem to fit - she has a huuuuuuuuuuge bootay. The guitar case had come apart, luckily I slotted it back together though. The stand is increasingly difficult to work, meaning that she either hangs awkwardly, or falls over. And her hair, I have so much grief for her hair.

It is so so AWFUL. And I love the look of her hair! I love the victory rolls, I love the pin up style, the colour, the length, the style. But my Operetta's hair? My Operetta has a nest - her victory roll looked more like a sausage plait - long shapeless and spread over her whole head. It was only when I looked at promo shots that I realised that the elongated frizz sticking out of either size of her head was also supposed to be style - as two more victory rolls. I don't even want to mention the back of her hair, because if I do, I might end up throwing the poor doll at the wall.

I attempted to fix her hair - I curled the top 'roll' into a quiff, and recurled the sides, using my fingers and some hairspray and then  pinned it into space. Quite literally pinned it too as I shoved pins into her soft skull - which was actually quite a nice way to calm down after seeing the state she arrived in. I took some quick photos of her, but my camera batteries failed, so I'm recharging them before taking some better photos later. I just hope I can get her to look a bit better. Hmm.

Oh hi, my hair's ridiculous.

Much better without that necklace.
Hair is sticking out like fire though.

  1. Oh, Jodie! That's not right. How could that hair have gotten so messy? You could try the famous boil treatment, but then you'd completely loose the retro style. There are super-talented ladies who could probably re-do the style with boil perms (using a straw or a pipe cleaner to curl the hair before boiling it) but I am not one of those ladies! Ugh. If she were mine? I'd boil dunk her hair and then cut it. She has such a lovely face, it's a shame to waste her. I'm so sorry that this is your first Monster High! Not a good representative. :(

  2. I know! The seller said that apparently that's what she was like on the box...hmm. I thought about boiling it. I suppose she'll just have to lose some of the diva element and go shoulder length, ha. She does have a lovely face, I love your photo's of the Monster High girls. I think either Operetta or Cupid are my favourite, though I haven't got my hands on Cupid yet. Maybe I should buy some more, haha. Thanks for the advice!
